LEAK: Rumored Xiaomi ‘Mi 5' Smartphone

Leaked photos of Mi 5 available in black and white

The only Xiaomi phones officially available in the Philippines via Lazada PH are the Mi 3 and the Redmi 1S, but the company is already planning to launch a new handset model in January 2015.

Besides the company’s next device carrying the Mi 5 mark, nothing concrete is known about it, including the launch date. However, there are speculations that Xiaomi will unveil the smartphone at the 2015 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, which will be held on January 5 to 9; and that the Xiaomi Mi 5 is rumored to sport a 5.7-inch qHD display, 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor, Adreno 430 GPU, and 20.7-megapixel main camera with Sony Exmor sensor and fingerprint scanner.

Xiaomi’s current flagship, the Mi 4, is only sold in China and has not been offered overseas yet. But with the announcement of a new model, the tech firm might skip offering the Mi 4 in the Philippines and just push the phone’s successor instead.

It may be recalled that the Xiaomi Mi 3 sold like pancakes in China and India. The Mi 3 sold out in 2.3 seconds on Flipkart. Xiaomi first impressed users when its flagship Mi3 topped the AntuTu benchmark last year.
